How does EBC help you prepare? Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE) exams are a fantastic way for EBC to help you obtain an internationally recognized qualification.
How can EBC help you perform well on the ISE exam? Even if you are enrolled in the 7-week ISE exam preparation course with EBC, there are still additional ways you can help yourself prepare for your ISE exam.
EBC understands you need guidance on your strengths and areas for improvement. Even so, many students are understandably nervous, especially if the exam is critical for them. For example, if you are applying to a British university, or if the company you work for or are being interviewed for requires an official level of English awarded by an organization like Trinity College London. So, what can I do as your teacher to help alleviate this stress?
1. Study as broadly as possible
While EBC provides materials, study sheets, and past papers for the ISE preparation course, we encourage you to explore authentic texts, such as those from the BBC or the Financial Times. By doing so, you will build your vocabulary and develop your opinions on various topics likely to appear in the exam.
Working on your higher-order thinking skills so you can share thoughts, ask for the examiner’s point of view, recap and summarize, etc., will reduce your stress levels, as you will be prepared for a wide range of topics and questions.
2. Help you fully explore the text
If you are using text from English articles, EBC will help you actively engage with it. Passively reading and listening isn’t enough; EBC will help you fully utilize the text.
For example, we will focus on questions such as: Can you see how and why a BBC article uses synonyms? How does a BBC speaker engage the audience? How long are the sentences in a magazine article? – hint, they’re not as long as you may think!
3. Dedicate some class time to developing essential exam skills
ISE focuses on authentic communication. However, it is helpful to dedicate some class time to developing critical exam skills beyond good vocabulary and grammar, such as successful paraphrasing, time management, planning, and concentration skills, so you can maximize your exam time.
4. Maintain a positive attitude
In addition to English, EBC can increase your chances of success by focusing on soft skills. We also work on your motivation by building your optimism and resilience. We concentrate on what you can do and how you have improved, use positive language, keep the end goal in mind, and avoid letting negativity take root. Emotions are contagious, so we make sure to maintain a positive attitude.
5. Help you manage your stress
Helping you manage your stress is crucial to exam success. For example, it’s much harder to panic if you breathe from your diaphragm. EBC can guide you to excellent courses and resources to help develop your Emotional Quotient (EQ). Developing your EQ will help you stay motivated.
6. Find a “study partner”
Try to find a study partner. It helps if your partner has different strengths so you can help each other develop and stay on track.
7. Familiarize yourself with question types, rubrics, and exam format
EBC prepares you for the Trinity exam by familiarizing you with the question types, assessment rubrics, and overall exam format so you understand what is expected and can respond confidently during the test.
